GUIDE
What’s the cheapest way to watch YouTube without ads?
Last updated October 27, 2026
Short answer
On a computer, the cheapest way is a browser ad blocker that keeps up with YouTube. AdPass blocks YouTube video ads and “ad blockers aren’t allowed” pop-ups in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave and Opera. It’s part of AdPass Plus, $24.99 a year at the founding price, and free for everyone during the beta. YouTube Premium costs more but also removes ads in the YouTube app on phones and TVs, which no browser extension can reach.
Your options
- YouTube Premium: $15.99 a month or $159.99 a year in the US (October 2026). No ads anywhere you’re signed in, including the YouTube app, smart TVs and consoles, plus background play and YouTube Music. Part of what you pay goes to creators.
- YouTube Premium Lite: $8.99 a month in the US. No ads on most videos, but you still see ads on music and Shorts.
- A browser ad blocker: works only on youtube.com in a browser on a computer, and only if it’s updated quickly when YouTube changes how it shows ads.
- AdPass Plus: a browser ad blocker that also blocks ads and trackers on every other site and keeps your passwords, for $24.99 a year at the founding price.
How AdPass handles YouTube
AdPass skips the video ads before and during a video, removes banner and overlay ads, and stops the pop-up that tells you ad blockers aren’t allowed. It runs our own blocking rules inside the extension, and when YouTube changes something, we ship a fix fast.
There’s nothing to set up. Open youtube.com and the ads are gone. If you’d rather see ads on YouTube to support creators, pause blocking for youtube.com from the AdPass button.
What it can’t do
- Block ads in the YouTube app on iPhone, Android, smart TVs or game consoles. No browser extension can.
- Block YouTube ads in Safari on iPhone yet. AdPass on iPhone blocks ads and trackers on other sites in Safari.
Get started
- Join the AdPass beta. We invite people from the waitlist in small groups.
- Install AdPass in Chrome, Edge, Firefox, Brave or Opera.
- Open youtube.com. YouTube blocking is on from the start, and every Plus feature is free during the beta.
Questions
Is YouTube ad blocking in the free plan?
No. Blocking ads and trackers on other sites is free, and YouTube blocking is part of Plus, $24.99 a year at the founding price, with a 14-day free trial and no card. During the beta every Plus feature is free.
Does AdPass block YouTube ads on my phone or TV?
No. AdPass blocks YouTube ads in a browser on your computer. The YouTube apps on phones, TVs and consoles can’t be reached by a browser extension; YouTube Premium is the way to remove ads there.
What happens when YouTube changes its ads?
YouTube changes often, and every blocker has to keep up. Our YouTube rules are our own, and when something slips through we ship a fix fast. Tap “Something broke?” in AdPass to tell us.
